The strong gusts of wind and heavy snowfall in the last hours have made the championship program to vary slightly.

Spanish skiers Audrey Pascual and María Martín-Granizo will participate in the Slalom and Giant Slalom events. Andorran skier Roger Puig will participate in the Slalom and Supergiant disciplines.

ESPOT, January 21, 2023

Today, January 21, the first competition of the championship was to be held, the Supergiant race in the men's and women's categories, but after the jury's evaluations regarding the weather conditions and the state of the slopes, the organization has been forced to suspend the race and postpone it. Although everything was ready to host the first round of the competition, the strong gusts of wind and the temperatures of the last hours have led the FIS to take this decision. Anja Skuntelj, FIS Para Ski race director explains, from the Espot ski resort and after the last meeting of the jury: "Today we have not been very lucky. Due to the bad weather and the strong wind at the top - more than 130 km/h - we saw that we would have no options".

In this sense, Joan Puig, race director of the FIS Para Alpine Ski 2023 World Cup, explained that "when it comes to defining the schedule changes when the weather conditions are adverse, the organization calls meetings every hour in which the race director, the resort director, the piste technicians and members of the International Ski Federation participate. At these meetings a deadline is set to decide whether the races can be postponed for the same day or for the following days of competition, always within the established dates, in this case without going beyond January 29".

During the day, some of the athletes have taken the opportunity to train and the Espot Esquí team has worked so that the races can be held when the weather conditions improve, which is expected to happen in the next few hours. Today at 17h will be held the Captains Meeting, the daily meeting in which the members of the organization decide the schedule for the next day and make the draw to know the starting order of the athletes.

Thus, after the meeting the discipline of the first race to be held, tomorrow January 22, will be known, as well as the schedules and the start list of the runners. The results of the races can be followed through this link.
